Covington, OH, near Northgate Ford Lincoln Mercury in Cincinnati, OH
Northgate Ford Lincoln Mercury in Cincinnati, OH, is proud to draw customers from Dayton and its surrounding metro area, including Covington, a village in Miami County 20 miles north of Dayton.
Covington, with a population of more than 2,500 people, was first settled in 1807 and later incorporated in 1835. Prior to that, the area had been known as Fort Rowdy, which was built in 1793 during the Northwest Indian War (also known as Little Turtle's War and other names) by General "Mad" Anthony Wayne and his army near the Stillwater River. Local legend has it that the camp got its name because of the rowdy behavior of the troops that served there. |
On the first weekend of each October, Covington celebrates its past during the annual Fort Rowdy Gathering, which includes a recreation of Mountainman encampments, authentic demonstrations, contests, games and other entertainment. The village's history is also celebrated at the Fort Rowdy Museum on Spring Street, housed in a mid-1800s building across the street from the village's fire station and post office. The museum, open by appointment and during special events, houses a number of artifacts detailing the history of Fort Rowdy, Covington and Newberry Township at large.
